School Tour @ Castle Saunderson
Our Trip to the Park & Mrs. Hickey's
Life-cycle of a butterfly
During the month of May we had some extra students in Rang a 3. Teacher brought 5 little caterpillars into our room and we watched them grow and grow each day. We observed the wonderful
life-cycle each day as the caterpillars crawled to the top of the pot and formed their hard outer shell which is also known as their chrysalis. They stayed in their chrysalis for around a week, then slowly one by one our beautiful red painted lady butterflies emerged. We fed and took care of the butterflies for a couple of days and we then released them into their natural habitat! :)

10 Class Stars Reward
As always Rang a 3 worked really hard to get all of their class stars. When they received the tenth class star there was a class vote. The children voted for a 'Teddy bear picnic'. The children brought their teddy bears to school and we had a lovely picnic outside. Teacher and Elizabeth brought some lovely treats to the picnic which we all enjoyed. We then were allowed to play outside for most of the afternoon! :)
'Easter Cowboy Challenge'
Rang a Trí have continued to work extremely hard to learn their Maths tables (Multiplication and Division). As you know we had a big 'Christmas Cowboy challenge' which was great fun. After Christmas the children worked very hard on their tables as they knew the
'Easter Cowboy challenge' was coming up. We held our
'Easter Cowboy challenge' and in the end Danny was crowned
'King of the Tables' and Keela remained 'Queen of the Tables'!
The two winners received an Easter Egg as their prize. Everyone who took part did great and we had lots of fun! :)

The Victorian Era
Along with Rang a 4, 5 & 6 we learned a little bit about the Victorian Era and how schools were run back then. We had the chance to dress up and see what a typical classroom was like in the Victorian Era. When the headmaster entered the room the girls had to perform a curtsy and the boys had to bow. The headmaster was a very cross man and expected silence in the classroom at all times. He carried a cane and he would walk around the room and inspect the cleanliness of the children's hands. The children wrote on blackboards using chalk and had to work extremely hard at all times!
Our Spanish Afternoon
In Geography, we were learning about the country Spain. We learned lots of new things about Spain such as; where it is located in Europe, the weather, traditional Spanish dishes etc. We also learned how to say the colours in Spanish and our teacher taught us a Spanish song which we all loved to sing and also dance to. One of the famous dessert dishes that people like to enjoy in Spain is Churros. We were lucky enough to try some tasty churros thanks to Danny in our class who brought them in to school for us to enjoy. We dipped them into chocolate and they were just delicious.
We also had a Spanish afternoon in which we sang our Spanish song and enjoyed lovely Tapas and used some of the Spanish vocabulary that we picked up! We loved learning about Spain!!:)

Talent Show
In Geography last month we were learning about Homeless people. Rang a Trí as a class decided that they wanted to donate money to the Homeless. We came up with the idea of having a 'Talent Show'. The talent show consisted of dancing, singing, acting, football and lots more. The children brought in their own money and together the class raised nearly 30 euro. Teacher then added to the money and in total Rang a 3 donated 100 euro to Focus Ireland. The children had a great time at the talent show and they felt great for doing something so kind for people less fortunate than them! :)
Christmas 'Cowboy challenge'
Rang a Trí have been working extremely hard to learn the new concepts of multiplication and division this year and they have put a huge effort into learning their Maths tables. Each Friday the class takes part in the 'Cowboy' challenge and we usually have a few winners at the end of the game. At Christmas we had a big 'Christmas Cowboy challenge'. The children worked extremely hard and thoroughly enjoyed the fun. In the end Jake was crowned 'King of the Tables' and Keela was crowned 'Queen of the Tables'! :)
'Odd Socks Day' was a big hit in Rang a 3!
Our Trip to Supervalu :)
Rang a Trí were invited down to Supervalu to learn about various kinds of foods and what foods are good/bad for us. The dietitian spoke about the
'Food Pyramid' and explained what the healthiest foods were and how much of each food group we should be eating every day. The children listened carefully and took part in a quiz at the end. They left with lots of new information and with some lovely goodie bags of fruit and water!
Sos beag Gaelach
Every Wednesday we have what is known as 'Sos beag Gaelach'. This is where the children are encouraged to make an effort to speak Gaeilge at break as well as play the Irish games they have been taught. On top of this, each class teacher or resource teacher read a scéal to the children as they are eating their lunch. The children really enjoy this!
10 stars reward
What a great idea for raising money for Focus Ireland, it helps to have such a talented bunch!
